五OS improvements

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Today, at 9h00 in Paris, France, for the first time in its short history, 五OS has been started on a real piece of hardware.

This is an important step for an OS that has been only written using emulators like QEmu and VirtualBox.

This week’s news : 五OS, TuxTelecom and libthor

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

During the week, the 五OS project has been resumed. This project is aimed at creating an OS for end-users with a really fast boot by including all vital parts in the kernel.

Also, in order to make easier for the users, there will be no need to deal with things such as shells, etc… to get the OS installed.

I’ve taken over the USB driver developpement, while BombStrike will work on the process scheduler in order to fix a few glitches that were reported.

While this happens, I’m still working on TuxTelecom althrough the service is now owned by Mutum Sigillum LLC. I get to play with the central while real service will be initiated soon.
The final service will of course include regular phone calls, but it will also include ability to send SMS to the world, and maybe to receive those too (in order to receive SMS you’ll need a special plan. Everyone with credit on their accounts will be able to send messages).

Finally, a new non-open source project I’m working on : libthor (threaded torrent library). This cross-platform library will allow anyone to build applications handling torrents (load a torrent, seed it, etc).

Well, that’s basically everything to this week’s news. See you next week !

And now, I’m 23 y.o.

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Yeah, another birthday happened, and it helped me reminding some very old stuff.

Back in 2004, a Friend, Kiddo, sent me a nice image for birthday. The image was posted on 2004-05-31 at 23:54, and I’ve kept it all this time ;)

Now it’s time for me to share it with you.

Two years after

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

You remember, I left Eurocenter in june ‘05. Things weren’t good, and I left because I felt it was my best option.

Today, we’re soon in june ‘08, and I feel it was the right choice. It caused a whole lot of problems (and trust me, a lot means a lot), things are better, I earn a real salary (when you live near Paris, a salary under 2000€/month is far from being enough) and I don’t get any news anymore.

However today, while searching « MagicalTux » on google as I usually do (I like to see where people talk about me), I found this page.

Yeah, in ‘07, two years after I left, people still wish me an happy birthday. I’ll wait a bit to see what happens in ‘08, they may forget me this time, but it feels warm inside to see people who still care about those who are not around anymore.

PHP Lessons

Friday, May 9th, 2008

I’ll be starting PHP lessons for free in a few weeks.

It’ll be limited to 10 people, and the 3 best will get some special prize, I’ll see with them what they want and what I can give them. They will get a SVN repository and a webhosting connected to this repository in order to be able to answer to the subjects.

If you want to participate, I’ll have to talk to you and evaluate your level in order to adjust to everyone’s level and avoid making subjects too boring for you.

As subjects will be made public on this blog, you are also free to participate on your own.

Subjects will be issued in English and in French.

June 1st is the deadline for people who wish to participate directly. First subject will be issued a few days later, once all participants are ready.

New blog engine!

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Finally, I didn’t write a new blog engine as I initially intended (no time in this world for that), however I switched from DotClear to Wordpress.

This choice was made after I used Wordpress for a while on Porchoman. Anyway stay tuned for more soon !

Here’s the blog of an evil penguin

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

For those who already know, I got to see a lot of policemen who opened my computers to analyze data found on those but as far as today, nothing really interesting was found.

More than that, I just don’t have any news anymore.

pinetd2, previous level reached

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

As you may know, I’m currently rewritting the whole pinetd project to a new project called pinetd2.

Right now, we finally have partially reached the functionnality level of pinetd (being able to receive mails, and check them with pop), and now IMAP4 is also working (you can receive mails via imap, but not yet search and do nice stuff imap allows).

pinetd2 is still missing a MTA (this should be a matter of days) and more imap4rev1 functions (this is a matter of one or two weeks). Once this is done and once PHP 5.3 is released, pinetd will be officially OBSOLETE, and pinetd2 will become the new officially supported version. Please note that extra attention has been ported to make pinetd2 compatible with pinetd, without even having to run an update tool. Just extract pinetd2 to a new directory, copy your config file from pinetd, and run it. Your config file will merged in the XML config used by pinetd2, and you’ll have to check it a last time before running the daemon for real.

Watch me on your TV : Suck my Geek !

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

If you are lucky enough to live in France, you will be able this friday evening near 22h50 on channel “Canal +” to watch a documentary about geeks called « Suck my Geek ».

And yeah, I’ll be in this documentary. You’ll see me speaking about various aspects of « being a computer geek », including living with a computer, playing games, watching anime and going on anime conventions, and of course about porn too (yeah, porn is something recurrent on Internet, you should know about that by now, it’s just like viagra).

Anyway that’s the first time for me to appear on a national channel. Wish me good luck!

For now, maybe you’ll want to see an interview of the people who did SuckMyGeek. A little tip : I appear near 4:10 in this video.

By the way you can also check the official Suck my Geek website for the official trailer (I’m not in this one).

22 years

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

For those who missed it, June 1st was my birthday.

I’m now 22 years old, well… That’s nothing special, just one more year to the counter.

As time passes by, things are getting better on a few aspects of my life. Tommorow evening I’ll start living in a new appartment, bigger and better than anything I ever had.

More to come …
